Orphanage Home Project
The orphanage is a safe house for abused and vulnerable children in Victoria Falls. Since its inception in 2008, the orphanage has housed and saved many children who are dumped by their parents due to unwanted pregnancies and some have the most shocking stories you have ever heard. The orphanage is open to volunteers from 0900am to 1700hrs each day. The orphanage currently shelters over 71 children between the ages 1 year 4 months to 17 years of age. A reasonable number of the children are HIV/AIDS orphans who lost their parents from HIV/AIDS, some were deserted by their parents dumped in bushes, toilets among other places. The centre also acts as a drop in centre were abused children are kept in good health and safety while investigations are pending by responsible authorities.
These children are in need of educational support, care, and friendship. Volunteer work at an orphanage will offer the children the emotional support and mental stimulation that all children need to develop healthy social skills and self-confidence. This opportunity will present volunteers a chance to impact both the children and themselves. This opportunity offers a rewarding combination of the new, exciting, and life-changing experiences.

Volunteering at the orphanage exploits and activates a wide range of the volunteers’ interests, talents, skills, and knowledge some of which the volunteer themselves would have never known about themselves. Volunteers stand a chance to be very innovative and as such could work at the orphanage in any aspect. This would normally include teaching the children, helping or supporting the children with their homework, initiating interesting educational or social games or simply telling a story and engaging with the children. Volunteers can be sure whatever they initiate has a positive impact on the children and can definitely not be taken for granted. Children would normally wish to learn about the volunteer, whom they are, where they come from, their country, music, sports, history and other social life activities. Volunteering with these orphans will give you an insight into a different world. A world where childcare is a privilege and a gift, where orphans who have nothing will share whatever they can with a complete stranger, and where you can change the lives of people and children just by being yourself.
