Victoria Falls · Hwange District, Zimbabwe

Communities alongside wildlife, leading their own change.

Afro Edge is a youth-driven, women-focused non-profit. We work with the people of Victoria Falls and Hwange on health, education, the environment and social services, in a place where the heat is rising, the rain is falling short and elephants walk past the fence.

Why Victoria Falls and Hwange

Life alongside wildlife is shaped by forces no household controls.

Temperatures are higher. The rains are shorter and less reliable. Food, fuel and school fees move with prices set far away, and wildlife shares the land, the water and the fields.

Young people and women carry much of the load, and they already know what works. Afro Edge backs them with skills, systems and funding, so change is led from inside the community and lasts.

Current project

Waste becomes food. Food becomes work.

Hotels and businesses in Victoria Falls separate their food waste. We collect it and take it to Sizinda, where young people turn it into vermicompost and grow organic produce. The cycle keeps money, nutrients and jobs inside the community.

We run it with Pristine Victoria Falls Society, the community movement behind the street clean-ups, street adoption and school campaigns. PVFS brings more than 400 trained members and 15 street chapters. Afro Edge brings the technical design and a seat on its board.

Impact

See the work as it happens.

Our live dashboard tracks the food waste collected from hotels and lodges: collections, kilograms, where it goes and the carbon avoided. Grant-makers and partners can read the reports behind it.
