Waste is not trash. It is the beginning of the cycle.
Our current work is waste management and a circular economy in Victoria Falls, delivered with Pristine Victoria Falls Society. It sits alongside water, sanitation and climate resilience for communities alongside wildlife.
The need
Victoria Falls welcomes the world, and the world’s leftovers have to go somewhere. Every day, hotels and restaurants throw away food, and much of it ends up at open dumpsites. Elephants follow the smell into the neighbourhoods where people live. Two people lost their lives to elephant encounters in the first quarter of 2026, a danger linked in part to food waste dumped in the open.
Hotter days and less reliable rain make water, food and clean surroundings harder to find for families living alongside wildlife, who feel every change first.
What we do
Cutting waste at source
The Hotel Kitchen Toolkit helps hotel kitchens measure, separate and reduce food waste before it leaves the building.
Food-waste collection and composting
Food waste from hotels, restaurants and food outlets is collected and taken to Sizinda, where young people turn it into vermicompost. A black soldier fly larvae project turns some of it into animal feed.
Youth-run organic farming
The compost grows organic produce, managed by the youth team, so waste becomes food and work.
Street clean-ups and street adoption
Through Pristine Victoria Falls Society, businesses, schools and residents clean and look after named streets.
Environmental education
Campaigns and the Pristine Schools Awards help children and families change how they handle waste.
Water, sanitation and hygiene
Community-led sanitation: our Chidobe Ward plan aimed to build 1,000 toilets and end open defecation, using local materials and labour.
Our track record
Afro Edge brings the technical side of the loop, and Pristine Victoria Falls Society brings the community.
- Partnership with Pristine Victoria Falls Society, with a seat for Afro Edge on its board.
- A community movement of more than 400 trained members and 15 street chapters.
- At least 28 tonnes of food waste from 12 hotels diverted in the 2025 pilot, with support from WWF.
- A live dashboard that tracks food waste collected from hotels and lodges.
- A Chidobe Ward baseline: 461 of 1,461 households had a toilet, which is why the sanitation plan was written.
A cleaner, greener Victoria Falls, with everyone in the loop.
We want more hotels and lodges to join the food-waste loop, more streets adopted, and more young people employed on the farm.
Next we will add climate-smart gardens, safer water and sanitation, and ways for communities and wildlife to share the land.

Back Environment.
Hotels and lodges can supply food waste and co-fund the loop. Individuals can give to the farm and the clean-ups. Volunteers can join the team.
